Data Security and Data Privacy

This is one of the most precious and vital components of IT, the pace of technology has given way to repositories across different platforms, where our personal and business data may be stored. This is one of the most precious and vital components of IT, the pace of technology has given way to repositories across different platforms, where our personal and business data may be stored.

In addition, most businesses are in the phase of transition and/or creating hybrid models of cloud computing, which adds another level to an already complex topic. The current estimate of new data created is in the ballpark of 2.5 quintillion bytes EVERY day, it’s hard to find a word to explain how much that is but let’s call it a colossal amount.

In monetary terms for an enterprise level business on average, a security-related event is estimated to cost over $40 Million USD! This is why this area of IT should incorporate information security strategies, to guard against internal and external threats. One of the tactics businesses should incorporate as part of their security strategy, is continually evaluating their security infrastructure and always evolve new tactics to counter this growing threat, with their IT partners or their internal IT department.

The following points are hard for some business to understand and execute
1.    Understand and define sensitive data
2.    To create live, business data masking and data security policies that complement business objectives.
3.    Monitor and audit data from a centralised location

On the other hand, if a business has a good security strategy model the benefits are as follows:
1.    Prevent data branches
2.    Ensure data integrity
3.    Reduce cost of compliance
4.    Protect privacy
